With the theme of ‘Transforming Our World, Navigating Toward a Better Future’, the World Expo 2030 Busan is pursuing an open expo in which all people around the world can participate, going beyond the frame of countries, organizations, institutions, and companies. Preparing the bids for hosting the World Expo, where all types of participants, including the state, international organizations, corporations, local governments, NGOs, and civic groups and individuals, participate in the exhibition, UA26 Architecture carried out architectural design. Exhibition space that plays the most important role in this event, which expects participation of more than 156 countries, is composed of main theme space and sub-theme exhibition halls, pavilions composed of A, B, and C types, and a floating pavilion.
In this plan for the Busan North Port area, the theme space is created on the shore of the Busan North Port, which is the innermost part of the exhibition hall, after viewing the exhibitions in the sub-title hall and pavilion at the main entrance. Rather than the huge internal space of a single building located in the center of the venue, the theme space that is long along the coast reflecting the characteristics of Busan North Port reflects the sea view while enjoying the view of the sea and augmented reality in the surrounding terrain such as the floating pavilion and Yeongdo Island. In this way, we intended to highlight the characteristics of a port city as much as possible by introducing the coastal waters of Busan North Port as a part of the venue.
