Urban Regeneration of Dockyard in Tongyeong, 1st Prize, 2018

“Urban Regeneration New Deal Project” promoted as a government project, is a large-scale public project with 50 trillion won invested in 5 years for Urban regeneration area with urgency. Tongyeong was selected as the only Economic-based urban regeneration project.

UA26 won the International Competition of Urban Regeneration of Dockyard in Tongyeong hosted by Korea Land and Housing Corporation. We organized a competitive consortium with experts in various fields including Henn GmbH, POSCO A&C, Yushin Engineering, and Deloitte Accounting Firm. Among 20 teams of world-class experts initially participated, 7 teams were selected and our consortium won the competition after 3 months of proposal preparation.

We proposed a differentiated and sustainable urban regeneration solution based on historical culture and natural environment in order to create a cultural tourism hub and a global tourism base through industrial reorganization. The characteristic of ‘Tongyeong CAMP MARE’ is ‘12 educational programs’ with the motif of 12 traditional workshops such as Tongyeong’s crafts and arts by discovering cultural resources of various regions and using them as core contents.
