Korean Air Unbuk Engines MRO Facility Competition, 2022, 2nd Prize

Korean Air Unbuk Engines MRO Facility as the center of the Commercial Aviation MRO Service in Asia will provide optimized space and working environment with the concept of Smart Factory. Through Smart Factory concept, we intend to transform the working environment from the existing 3D (Dangerous, Dirty and Difficult) to the 3S (Safe, Sanitary and Smart).

- Flexible floor plans for adopting expansion and transformation
- Specialized plans of employees’ rest area with outdoor space

UA26 Architecture and Posco A&C jointly develop the site plan with integrated loading, parking, and maintenance of large vehicles for efficient land use and circulation. Floor plans are carefully coordinated to the process of Engines MRO, space programs, vertical circulations, logistics, and O&M. The core facilities of the smart factory are placed in the center for effective support and management. The exterior design is focused on sustainability and constructability suitable for largescale facades. By adopting materials and methods, we propose to reduce costs, the period of the construction, and also the maintenance costs for long-term periods. In addition, natural lighting and ventilation are actively introduced by segmenting the mass design with diverse materials for the facades.
